2014 ID

Ok so I've come to realize that I haven't really "introduced" myself, since I don't get asked a lot of questions I don't have an FAQ page or anything so... this is my little version of it So here it is .... c(:


I typically just go by my pen name on the Internet so you all can just call me "Mika"or my actual name "Brenda" which ever you prefer. I created this name (not really just Google) about 5-6 years back when I was still in the whole Naruto OC thing. Yes she still exists, just as my OC, not part of any particular anime.

I am in my senior year of high school. I am involved in an interactive media program at my school which deals with photography, graphic design, web development, Photoshop, video, etc,. I actually enjoy being here :3 though we don't do a lot of drawing as I was hoping they would, but that's OK, I'm learning about other fields that I would never have considered before. I especially like it because all types of personalities are accepted, you can be weird and crazy and it's still ok.

I love drawing and watching anime, and reading manga. I often just find myself staring at the art most of the time forgetting what I just read. I love to find inspiration within the black and white pages admiring the different strokes the artists have put into their work. Patience and dedication seeping through every page. I want to have those one day, and become like them. My friends and family have given me the greatest support with my pursue of my dream. Even though my art teachers through out the years have told me that anime isn't art, I'd like to throw a manga at their face and force them to read it while listening to me rant about how mangakas have put every ounce of their life in their work, possibly little to no sleep, tight schedules to keep track of, and constant editing,  then listen to them tell me "anime isn't art".

Everyday I try to improve my drawings with new techniques that I have picked up from other artists, and blend them with mine to make my own "original" style. Going to the country where anime first started, even if I won't be able to live there, just visiting will be great!

Popularity on DeviantArt was one of my first goals when I first signed up.... Thinking back I truly don't have an answer as to why... Looking at other "popular" artists I feel that they have a hug weight on their shoulders when it comes to expectations about their work. Being under the radar has really allowed me to draw what I want, when I want without having thousand of eyes waiting and knit-picking at all my mistakes. Now I can sit here an explain how "I don't want to be recognized by others" because then I'd be lying, having followers pushes me to do better and gives me a huge sense of motivation to keep going. Even though - in my opinion - I have a lot of followers, I have to consider that only 0.05% of them are actually active and look at my art. But that just means that I have a small audience, which is perfectly fine since I'm shy anyways. It's just nice to know that someone is enjoying my work, and that's all that matters.

I aspire to be an anime artist, or maybe work for Disney.  I know that I want to do something art related.  At first I wanted to be a Graphic Designer but I realized that the only reason I chose that was because there were a lot of opportunities for it and the pay was really good, but it wasn't something I enjoyed doing, let alone doing it for the rest of my life. So I'm hoping to work for Disney, or just as a freelance Illustrator one day!



Ok so just a few more miscellaneous things about me:

I love the color purple
I am Hispanic (I can't begin to tell you how many people throughout the years have asked me if I'm Asian - I just smile and say no ^____^)
I can't stand warm weather.... I know I'm crazy... but I just hate it, especially in the state I live in, the summers are so humid it makes me sick, I just don't like stepping outside and start sweating.  I don't mind sweat, if I did something to cause it, I don't like sweating for no reason.
I use Paint Tool Sai 2 and Photoshop CS3 with most of my work
